Full Film Analysis (Scream)

(Scream)
The original scream trailer that debuted in 1996 is an impressive trailer that gives everything a trailer should and everyone knows the best horror trailers ask a question. They set up a premise or a situation, and then leave the viewer wanting to know more. The camera side of the trailer, there are quite a few long shots and reasonably a lot of close ups. The camera takes varied shots so the audience does not get bored and to keep up on our feet, so to speak. The opening scene of the trailer we see a telephone, which immediately tells us that the phone will play a big and important part in this film, which is true and a telephone is one of the killer’s biggest friends throughout the film. The Mise-en-scene throughout the trailer is college kids in a suburban area, and because they are teenagers at college, it makes the story more for the viewing of teenagers around 18+. Through the film trailer there is characters getting chased round houses like a typical horror film, like Halloween or Friday 13th as these are typical films that follow that kind of layout. A scene of the trailer, the main character Sydney is about to have sex but ends up not doing it so the audience then gets the idea that she is the final girl in the film for those who have not seen the film before. The editing in the trailer has roughly 76 cuts quite a good amount for a decent horror film trailer. To start with the edits are fast paced then start to slow down during the middle of the trailer, and right at the end when the text appears the edits become really fast to get the audience pumped or excited for the actual film, during the trailer there isn’t much information that is giving away as some trailers give what’s going on away which ruins the actual movie. During the trailer there is a voice over talking about what is going on in a deep scary voice which sets that it is a horror film. Also the sound during the trailer gets louder and louder towards the end to get us the (Audience) on our feet, the whole trailer is well designed and well made. All these points mentioned are what make a horror trailer and overall scream is a really good heart thumping horror film.
